Hey Scott,

I recently took on the job of removing the gas tank and boy was it a pain in the ass. The best advice I can give you is to remove the two bolts holding the tank down. Next lift the rear of the tank up. As you lift the rear of the tank push the tank to the left in order to clear the fuel valve on the tank. It was only after an hour of trying to take the tank off that I figured this out...haha...The valve should clear the frame and the tank will easily come off by pulling it towards yourself. Also another piece of advice, disconnect the speedo cable before you take the tank off. It makes it a lot easier to move the tank once it is off. Make sure you don't lose the rubber washer that is on the connecting end of the speedo cable.
Happy riding,
Jason
